Anesthesia as a subject is very vast, well covered intensively in various text books. However with advancements rapidly occurring in some subspecialities of Anesthesia, it becomes prudent to cover these topics for the benefit of students and practioners alike so that these advances can be incorporated in daily practice. Sars CoV-2 Pandemic 2019 was a moment in history which not only brought the world to a fearful standstill, but shed light on the potentiality of Anesthesia and anesthesiologist. ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. Anesthesiologist took the lead in proving the point by innovating in a sustainable manner over existing methods of patient care, intubation, ventilation, scavenging, OT and ICU management. Dr Rupinder Kaur Kaiche is working in the department of Cardiac Anaesthesia and Critical Care at MVP Medical College and Pioneer Hospital. She has also worked to develop cardiac anaesthesia department at Wockhardt Hospital and Ashoka Medicover Hospital, Nashik. She did her medical education from LTM Medical College, Sion, Mumbai and post-graduation from Seth G S Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai. After working in Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, she went to U.K to gain international experience. She returned to Nashik and has since administered anaesthesia and managed post-operatively complex cardiac surgical procedures including chronic renal failure and renal transplant patients for CABG, concomitant CABG and fracture femur and cardiac interventional procedures. Her area of interest include advanced mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, TEE. She has been awarded fellowship in critical care medicine by American Board of critical care medicine. She has many national and international research publications including review articles to her credit. She has delivered lectures at various conferences in India and internationally. She believes in innovation to develop safe and eco-friendly healthcare system. She is also a crusader of nature preservation and has published 3 books of poetry on nature and relevant social causes. She has also released an audio book.
Dr Vidyadhar Modak is a Consultant anaesthesiologist working in various hospitals in Nashik. He completed his graduation and post-graduation from LTM Medical College and hospital, Sion, Mumbai. He shifted to Nashik in 2002 bringing along his expertise to the various hospitals he worked in. His area of interest include anaesthesia for laparoscopy, urosurgery, neurosurgery, spine and orthopedic surgery and oncosurgery.
Dr Shilpa having completed her MBBS and FRCA, Dr Shilpa, is currently working as a Consultant at University Hospitals, Birmingham, UK. She has special interest in Thoracic and pediatric Anaesthesia. Along with lingual work, she is also an educator and organises many simulation courses across West Midlands focussing on critical incidents, pediatric emergencies and one lung ventilation. She has many articles and newsletters to her credit.
Dr Vivek Gupta is working as Consultant in department of Cardiac Anaesthesia & Intensive Care at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Unit: Hero DMC Heart Institute Ludhiana. He did his medical graduation from BRD Medical College Gorakhpur and post-graduation from Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital Mumbai. He is having clinical experience of more than 25 years including anaesthesia administration and postoperative management in complex cardiac surgical procedures, cardiac intensive care management including advanced mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring and renal replacement therapies. He has been awarded cardiac anaesthesia fellowship and fellowship of Indian college of critical care medicine. He is coordinator for ECMO program and has extensive experience of ECMO management. He is pioneer for use of ECMO in aluminium phosphide poisoning. He has more than 30 research publications including review articles. He has written more than 20 chapters in various critical care and ECMO books. He has delivered more than 100 lectures in various national and international conferences. He is teacher for fellowship course of cardiac anaesthesia, critical care courses and ECMO training courses. Presently he is Vice President of ECMO society of India and Chairman, Research & Ethics Committee SWAAC ELSO (South West Asian African chapter of Extra Corporeal Life Support Organization). He is actively involved in developing Indian ECMO guidelines under ECMO society of India. He is editor for ISCCM ECMO CRRT Book and section editor for API text book of medicine 2016. He is Associate editor for Journal of Anesthesiology & clinical pharmacology. He is faculty & core member of Indian Resuscitation Council Federation for formulating structured CPR training program.
